We at  Powder Lites Inc.  are no longer manufacturing parts for Alpine Turbos. We are concentrating on our own turbo kits which will come as a complete kit, wideband, boost gauge, boost controller, brackets, Rapid Bike 3, blow off valve, snow dust filter, ceramic coated turbo housing, stainless steel / aluminum muffler and clutching instructions. FX Nytro turbo kit is exclusively for Powder Lites.

New Nytro Turbo kit info: So you want the perfect boosted sled?
Powder Lites have been quietly doing countless hours of R&D on 3 cyl. Vector and now the new FX Nytro package. We have been listening to what the consumer wants from their prized ride.

Top of the list would be reliable power, but what kind of power? HP or Torque? TORQUE = Acceleration   HP = Speed
Snowmobiles in the mountains with deep powder track require a different package than the guy with short track setup for radar running. Fit and finish is where our pride of workmanship comes into play. Not all turbo kits comes as complete kit. Our turbo kits set us apart from the rest by design and engineering. With many years of experience in the motorcycle and snowmobile industry, we have never been so excited by the preliminary results of testing a new engine package.
         Early testing was done quietly on the 3 cyl. Vector series with astonishing torque and HP numbers, field testing backed everything up beyond our expectations.
         Armed with our prototype Vector, we went to Big Iron Shootout in Revy to confirm what we felt was a high point in our R&D. Not only satisfied with the results after running head to head with the best of the best, we were shocked at the response from the competitors we ran down and general interest in our 3 cyl. engine program. We took a pump gas knife to a race gas gun fight and drove away proud of our achievement.
          Enter in the new 1050 cc fuel injected FX Nytro which is 50 lbs. lighter and just begging for the same Turbo enhancement as the Vector. After some top secret late night thrashing, preliminary testing showed a very promising results. We feel the new Nytro outfitted with a Powderlites Turbo is going to set a new mark in the Turbo sled market.

FX Nytro Intercooler

The purpose of an intercooler is to cool air charge. The turbocharger heats the intake air when compressing it because its adiabatic efficiency is not 100%. Hot intake air is detrimental to power and will increase the chance of detonation. An intercooler reduces the intake temperature by pushing the air through a heat exchanger (like a small radiator) that absorbs some of the heat from the intake air. Placing an intercooler in the air path between turbocharger compressor and the intake manifold provides two advantages:
  • It reduces the heat in the air charge which increases the charge density, thus increasing the potential for making more power. You actually get more air and fuel into the cylinder for any given boost level. The power increase will typically be between 10 and 20% for the average(street) boost pressure of 5 to 15 lbs/in.
  • It reduces the tendency of the combustion process to knock (detonation), allowing more boost to be run safely for a given fuel quality.
Not all intercoolers are created equal. The intercooler efficiency depends on the design of the intercooler. The two critical factors are:
  • Thermal efficiency (how much heat is removed), and
  • Flow restriction (lost pressure) created by the presence of intercooler.
Regardless of the degree of thermal efficiency, if too much boost pressure is lost to a restrictive intercooler, the intercooler may actually decrease the performance.
Cam Timing
On a turbocharged engine you want the least amount of overlap as possible because the turbo forces air into the combustion chamber - overlap is not needed to pull in fresh air like on an NA engine. Excessive overlap on a turbocharged vehicle will actually hurt performance because pressurized air blows right out the exhaust ports. Therefore on turbocharged vehicles you want to DECREASE camshaft overlap by moving the camshafts AWAY from one another (advancing the exhaust camshaft and retarding the intake camshaft).
